cbs5.com(AP) SEBASTOPOL Two men armed with shotguns and pistols forced their way into a Sebastopol medical marijuana patient's home Monday by pretending to be police officers and made off with an undisclosed amount of pot.
The Sonoma County sheriff's department said the robbers wore ski masks and shirts with the word "Police" printed on them and identified themselves as officers after knocking on the door.
When the patient and her husband opened, the men pointed guns at the couple, demanded money and bound them.
The robbers also beat the husband and used a stun gun on him.
Investigators are trying to determine if it was a random attack or if the robbers knew the couple had medical marijuana in the house.
Authorities said the robbers escaped with both dried pot and marijuana plants.
A sheriff's department spokesman added that cases of people impersonating police officers are rare in Sonoma County.
