Pismo council bans marijuana dispensaries

The Pismo Beach City Council is taking further steps to ban medical marijuana dispensaries from operating in the city.

The city council unanimously approved an ordinance this week permanently banning marijuana dispensaries in the coastal areas of the city, adding the already permanent ban in throughout the non-coastal areas of the city.

An emergency ordinance, set to expire in April, was previously in place. Pismo Beach is one of several cities in San Luis Obispo County to ban medical marijuana distribution, despite a conflict between state law, which allows medical marijuana, and federal law, which calls marijuana dangerous and addictive
